What the scheme covers

A subsidy process, not a shortcut around good design.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana supports eligible residential electricity consumers who install grid-connected rooftop solar through the prescribed process. The scheme does not make every building, consumer or proposed capacity automatically eligible. The electricity connection, property, roof, technical feasibility, selected vendor, equipment, portal records and commissioning documents all need to satisfy the rules that apply when the application is processed.

The current published central financial assistance structure used on this site is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, with the residential subsidy capped at ₹78,000. This should be checked against the official portal before a purchase decision because schemes, clarifications and procedures can change. A subsidy is not the same as a free installation, and “Muft Bijli” does not guarantee that every household will receive a zero electricity bill.

Use the official portal as the source of truth.

ElektroSolar can explain and support the practical process, but MNRE, the National Portal and KSEB or the relevant DISCOM determine eligibility, technical acceptance, verification and subsidy release.

Before an application

Check whether the project makes sense for the home.

A portal application should follow a basic solar assessment. Subsidy availability does not correct an unsuitable roof or an incorrectly sized system.

Electricity connection and use

Review whose name is on the residential connection, recent consumption, sanctioned load and likely future changes. These facts help establish a sensible capacity and identify questions that must be resolved through official channels.

Roof and building

Confirm usable shade-free area, roof condition, access, orientation, structure, drainage and cable routes. A physical survey is needed before treating a proposed layout as final.

KSEB feasibility

Published transformer capacity can help with early research, but it changes and is not approval. Use the informational checker, then rely on the formal KSEB process for the decision.

Typical scheme journey

Keep each stage documented.

Exact portal screens and authority requirements can change. The sequence below describes the practical project flow rather than replacing official instructions.

1

Review eligibility and property details

Confirm the residential connection, consumer information, roof and intended system before committing to equipment.

2

Register through the official route

Complete the required National Portal or DISCOM steps using accurate consumer and bank details.

3

Complete survey and system design

Finalise capacity, layout, equipment, protection and project scope after the site has been checked.

4

Install and commission

Install approved equipment safely and retain invoices, serial details, photographs and other required records.

5

Inspection, metering and subsidy request

Complete the applicable verification and grid-connection process, then follow official instructions for the subsidy claim and bank transfer.

Avoid common mistakes

Do not let the subsidy become the whole decision.

Choose capacity because it fits consumption, roof and technical conditions—not simply because a subsidy tier exists. Compare written proposals on equipment, mounting, protection, earthing, monitoring, warranties, service responsibility and exclusions. Confirm whether civil work, meter-related costs or roof repairs are outside the quoted scope.

Keep control of the applicant’s own portal credentials, contact details and bank information. Check that names and connection details are consistent before submission. Retain copies of the application, proposal, invoice, commissioning records and communication. If official requirements conflict with a vendor’s informal assurance, follow the authority’s published process and seek clarification.

Installation timing and subsidy timing are different. The physical work may be short once materials and design are ready, while approvals, inspections, metering and payment depend on external queues and complete documentation. ElektroSolar will support the steps within its role, but cannot responsibly promise a fixed approval or transfer date.
