Eligible residential consumers can apply for central financial assistance through the national rooftop-solar portal. ElektroSolar helps households move from the first eligibility discussion to installation and activation.
Subsidy, system eligibility and approval are subject to current MNRE, National Portal and KSEB/DISCOM rules. “Muft Bijli” does not guarantee a zero bill for every household.

Who is eligible for the PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar subsidy?
The central subsidy is intended for eligible residential electricity consumers installing a grid-connected rooftop solar system through the official National Portal process. The application, registered-vendor requirements, technical feasibility, commissioning and subsidy release remain subject to current MNRE and KSEB rules.
What solar system size and cost should a Kerala home expect?
Many homes begin by comparing systems in the 2–5 kW range, but the right size depends on electricity use, sanctioned load, usable shade-free roof area and KSEB feasibility. Cost varies with modules, inverter, structure, cable routes, roof work and whether batteries are included, so a site-specific written quotation is more reliable than a fixed online price.
How long is the payback period for rooftop solar?
There is no single guaranteed payback period. It depends on installed cost, subsidy eligibility, daytime self-consumption, current tariff, system generation, financing and maintenance. ElektroSolar can prepare a planning estimate after reviewing recent electricity use and the proposed system, but actual savings will vary.
How does KSEB net metering work?
A grid-connected system first serves electricity demand at the premises. A bidirectional meter records electricity imported from the grid and surplus solar exported to it, and billing or settlement follows the current Kerala regulations and KSEB process. Technical feasibility and final approval remain with KSEB.
How long does a rooftop solar installation take?
The physical installation is commonly completed within a few working days after design and materials are ready. The complete journey can take longer because site survey, portal steps, approvals, meter work, inspection and grid activation depend on the property and KSEB or scheme timelines.
What maintenance and warranty should I expect?
Rooftop systems need periodic visual checks, safe cleaning when soiling affects output and attention to monitoring alerts, wiring, protection equipment and inverter condition. Product and workmanship warranties vary by component and proposal, so confirm coverage, exclusions and service responsibilities in writing before installation.
Will rooftop solar keep the power on during a grid outage?
A standard on-grid inverter normally shuts down during a grid outage for safety. Backup requires a correctly designed hybrid or battery system with suitable changeover, protection and backed-up circuits. The available backup time depends on battery capacity and the loads being used.
